Selections made for Fast track (unless noted). We almost never play M/L favorites and usually play >5/1. See below for past year.

July 24. At Sar and going with Patience Drive in the 8th. Sharp improvement in 5F work. Solid record here. Worth a shot at 8/1. Result; Track came up muddy as did horse. As noted, our picks are for fast track only.

July 17. Staying at Del for several today. French Moon in the 4th at 8/1 has new connections and two swift works for this class. Gets weight off also. Kratisto at 8/1 was claimed last. Trainer has record for 'improving' horses in next start. Shows solid work a week ago. Also taking a shot with Proud Lisa in the $250K 10th. Gets the distance and likes a softer turf (rained last night again). Worth a shot at 15/1. And finally, we're playing Miss Singhsix at 5/1 in the $750K 11th. Can finish strongly and seems favored by longer distance than the others. Results; French Moon won handily. Paid $16.80. Miss Singhsix closed well to run 2nd to odds-on favorite. The field let the fav coast on the lead so he had planty left. Kratisto was unplaced but closed strongly. Watch for longer race next time out. Proud Lisa was outclassed.

July 10. Going with Ham And Ernie in the 8th at Del. Is competitive in these kinds of races, should get the distance and is good value at 8/1. Turf only. Result; Off turf. Won anyway in 3 horse race. Paid $7.20 as longest shot.

July 3. Staying at Del with Bless You Child (9/2) in the 7th. Rock hard turf favors early speed. Result; Ran 4th in decent effort. Led until late but caught while tiring.

June 26. Going with Cash McCool at 4/1 (3rd choice) in the 9th at Del. Should have the most stamina in a speed-filled race. Result; Closed well and won by 3. Paid $7.80.

June 19. At Delaware with Trickmeister at 8/1 in the 8th. Solid beating maidens first out. Moves up but ran faster than 3 others here on same day at the same distance. Also taking a shot with Blue Diamond Allie in the featured 9th. Has the speed to control the race with the turf hard as a rock. At 20/1, worth a shot. Result; Trickmiester won easily. Hammered down and paid only $4.20. Blue Diamond blew the start and was never in the race.

June 5. At Belmont with Remand at 10/1 in race 6, a 7F $250K sprint with only 5 starters. This is a quality field with tons of early speed. We like the longest shot who is cutting back to the distance, is working well, get the blinkers off and has hot trainer. We could go for a Remand/all exacta in this. See 2010 Belmont for our Belmont S. analysis and selections. Result; Remand closed well for 3rd after a very slow start. Our Belmont pick Fly Down ran 2nd to our 4th Choice there, Drosselmeyer.

May 29. Staying at Del with Honest Man in the featured 9th. Returned from year off with solid 4th in last and had swift recent work. 9/2. Result; Another scratch. Must have scratchitis these days.

May 22. At Del with Big Champ in the 6th at 5/1. Has the speed and post to control the race and cuts back to 5 1/2 F. Result; Scratched.

May 15. At Pim for the Preakness. Going with Not For Silver in the 10th at 10/1 as our spot play. Closer in speed-filled race. Runs well at Pim and at the distance. Good value. Playing Lookin at Lucky (3/1) to win the Preakness in a romp. See 2010 Preakness for our Preakness analysis and full selections. Results; Not For Silver ran out in a closely contested race losing by 3L. Lookin At Lucky won the Preakness. Paid $6.80.

May 8. Going with Sweet Temptress at 15/1 in the 8th at Delaware. Sharp improvment with new connections. May be capable of stepping up here. Worth a shot. Result; Bad bet here. Got hammered down to 9/5 which is not our idea of a value bet. Jockey allowed the pacesetters to set a leasurly pace and then went 5 wide. Ran 4th.

May 1. At Churchill with Warrior's Reward in the 9th. He's 3rd choice at 4/1, is at his best distance, runs well at CD and can handle an off track. See 2010 KY Derby for our Derby analysis and picks. Results; Warrior's was far back, uncorked a huge wide rally and needed 10 more yards. Ran 2nd at 4/1. Paddy O'Prado our Derby pick ran 3rd; lost by 2 1/2. He had a chance to take it but just didn't have enough late.

Apr. 24. At AQ with Kiln Creek in the 7th at 8/1. Good value that fits well here vs. 2 vulnerable favorites. The 9/5 shot is dropping after higher claim a month ago and the 2/1 hasn't raced in 15 months and resurfaces in a low price claimer. Also looking to Ibboyee to upset heavy favorite in the Gr. 3 Withers race 9. The 1/2 D'funnybone could have his hands full with Castenada on the front end and set it up for our pick. Results; Kiln Creek got through and won by 2. Paid $9.70. Fav ran 3rd and the other was scratched which cut the odds on Kiln. Castenada ran D'Funnybone into the ground setting up large show payoffs. Ibboyee looked the winner but caught late by implausable long shot.

Apr. 17. At Keeneland with Premium Gold in the 7th at 6/1. This turfer has been solid in the past on the Kee synthetic. Should go well here with top jockey. The Coolmore Lexington 9th is the next in the 3yo series leading to the KY Derby. This is a remarkably competitive event with no real favorite. We'll take Sheppard's Bushwacked to upset at 12/1. He's lightly raced with good speed figures in all and a winning effort over the track. He comes in off a good work. Results; Premium faded in the lane to be well out of it. Not one of Gomez's best rides; broke slow, reached the lead 4 wide around the turn and packed it in. Bushwacked ran a solid 2nd in losing by 1 L while gaining. 2 weeks in a row where our long shot choice has lost to a longer shot. The quality of the race itself left much to be desired. The winning time was only 2 ticks faster than the following race for $10K claimers.

Apr.10. At Keeneland for the Blue Grass S. Several of these need to win some real change to get into the KY Derby so it should be a strongly contested race. We're not going with the top choices but playing Paddy O'Prado at 10/1. He made a sharp jump up in his last on the turf and shows 2 recent swift works at Kee on dirt. Seems set for a big effort here with Desormeaux. Also playing Imperial Council in the 7th. Although 7/2, he's 4th choice in the ML. Looks like this is his best distance and he was compromised by GP's speed bias in his prior races. Results; Paddy ran 2nd in fine effort. He handled all the choices easily but got caught by 40/1 shot who fell from the sky late. Imperial ran 3rd in a tight finish of a competitive race.

Apr. 3. At AQ for Wood Memorial day. Musket Man in the Carter Hcp. (10th) is our spot play. He's 3/1 to heavy favorite Munning and represents good value. MM is a tough horse who really digs in when challenged. Our hunch is 7F is his best distance and will be right there with Munning. We're also playing Remand at 15/1 in the Bay Shore 7th. This is a time when lghtly raced 3yos step up their game; Remand is showing signs in the AM. We note Castenada, the stablemate of heavy favorite here Eightyfiveinafifty, was scratched from this to win easliy yesterday. That augers well for Eightyfiveinafifty in the Bay Shore so we'll play an exacta box with our choice. On the Wood Memorial itself, we'll try to beat Eskendereya, the 4/5 shot with Zito's Jackson Bend who lost to the favorite by 8l last out at GP. We tend to dismiss GP races as they strongly favor speed and expect a more competitive setting today at AQ. Results; Musket Man looked the winner but lost the bob at the wire to run 2nd. Eightyfiveinafifty won with Remand 3rd to miss our exacta. Jackson Bend ran 2nd to Eskendereya who turned out to be for real with an easy win here also. All in all, every pick was in the money.

Mar. 27. Lots of good racing around the world but we're staying at GP with Street Appeal in the 7th at 6/1. Decent return, shortens up to best distance and drops to winning spot. We're also looking to Silver Mountain at 12/1 to be competitive at the distance in the featured 10th. We'll play him in exactas with the two top choices, Never on Sunday and Winchester. Results; Street Appeal was well back but rallied late to win by 3. Paid $14.40. Silver Mountain was game but outrun late to be off the board losing by 5 in a tight finish.

Mar 20. Going with Boots Ahead (6/1) in the 9th at GP. Solid on turf, returned with impressive win, gets top jockey and faces favorite who seems better on wet dirt.
The FL Derby has become a race mostly for horses that need to increase their winnings for eligibiliy for the KY Derby moreso than a prep. Except for Radiohead, the average number of prior races per runner this year is down to 4.5. Rule (5/2) is a stickout here and our choice. He has plenty of prior winnings, 6 prior starts, the speed to dominate the race and importantly has an age-edge as a January foal (1'3'07). The 2nd choice Radiohead is a May foal and 2 months shy of his actual 3rd birthday. We'll pass on him in a 1 1/8 mile race. Likewise, we're reluctant to play Pulsion who faded in his last when racing without Bute for the first time. We're going with Miner's Revenge for 2nd. He looks like he's coming to hand with a strong race last out and a solid work since. The improving First Dude gets our call for show with Dominguez.
We're also taking a flyer on Hear Ye Hear Ye (15/1) in the Swale S.(10th). He lost to heavy favorite D'Funnybone by only 3 L in last and seems on the improve. Sanchez fits despite his current 2% winning percentage. D'Funnybone can dominate again so we'll be playing the 7-1 exacta also.
Results; Boots Ahead ran 5th in a 6 horse finish less than 2 L apart. Just not enough late. Hear Ye Hear Ye ran 4th to D'Funnybone again. Rule was 3rd in the FL Derby after getting burned in speed duel. At least, we had Pulsion and Radiohead right as both ended up far back. The race itself was unimpressive as the winning time was 1 tick more than the 3yo fillies ran two races before. It's hard to believe anyone coming out of this race will be much of a factor in the KY Derby.

Mar. 13. At GP with longshot Le Grand Cru (15/1) in the Gr. 2 GP Hdcp. 10th. Two solid races after dismal start to year followed by favorable master-trainer workout pattern. Also going with third choice One Hot Toddy in the 3rd at 4/1. Trainer doing well with recent claims. Results: Le Grand Cru got the early lead and faded out of it. Jerkens would have been more competitive with this kind of pattern in the past. Maybe age is catching up. One Hot Toddy ran 2nd although seemingly the best. He broke on top, Prado strangled him to drop back to next to last, advanced rapidly wide around the turn and didn't have the energy left to catch the winner. Not one of Prado's better rides.

Mar. 6, 2010. We'll start the year at Gulfstream with Khancord Kid at 5/1 in the $150K race 7. Set for as top effort and showed a blistering move on firm turf on Jan. 14. Result; Started the year off with a winner as Khancord got the lead, drew off when asked and held off late closer. Paid $18.20.

Oct. 17. No play; awful weather.
Oct. 10. At Del with Luck Follows Speed at 4/1 (3rd choice) in the first. Has the speed to wire this weak field if she handles the wet track. Diamond Account in the 6th at 10/1 is under new management and should be up for this. Also playing Unforgettable Gal at 8/1 in the 6th. Likes it wet. Result. Luck ran 3rd. Caught late. Diamond also ran 3rd in good effort. Unforgettable ran out as track wasn't wet.

Aug. 15. Going with 2 at Del. Big Smooth in race 1 has been outside the last couple and gets better post today. 8/1. Bushy's Yield in the 2nd fits class and distance here. 4/1 as 3rd choice. Result; Big Smooth was smooth but slow. Ran 5th. Bushy's Yield was a fast closing 3rd; lost by a length.

July 26. Haply in the 2nd at Del will be closing strongly. In from Lrl at 6/1. Also, playing her with fav L'Affaire in exacta box. Result; Scratched

July 25. Going with 2 value plays at Del today. Sneaky General at 8/1 in the 1st drops, is back on dirt and shows a decent work for this. Madame Vera at 5/1 in the 8th can close into a weak field here. Result; Sneaky had the lead and coughed it up, ran 5th. Madame was fast closing 3rd at 10/1.

July 4. Weather has finally cleared and we're playing Mi D' Ruler at 8/1 in the 3rd at Del has flashed enough speed to contend here. Has solid connections. Result: Mi D' was scratched.

June 6. Playing Desert Key in the 6th at Belmont. Working beautifully and fits with these super sprinters at this point. Should be good value at 6/1 with Benny The Bull probably being overbet. Result; Ran 3rd in good effort.

May 30. At Del and going with Stormy C's in the 1st at 8/1 and Propt Delivery in the 2nd at 6/1. Stormy returns to fast dirt, and Propt needed last. Result; Stormy C's ran a solid race but couldn't cope with 1/2 favorite missing by less than 2 lengths. Propt Delivery started 5 lengths behind the field. The jockey panicked and rushed into contention to fade late as would be expected from such a maneuver.

May 23. Playing Mr. Conover at 8/1 in the 4th at Del. Profits from speed duel. Result; Ran last all the way. Unusual for this trainer. May have been an injury situation.

May 17. At Pim for Preakness day and going with Despite The Odds in the 8th at 9/2. Carefully handled by hot trainer and ready to step up in class. Result; Missed the break and couldn't catch up with the high speed of the race. Jockey had a bad day overall.
