Selections made for Fast track (unless noted). We almost never play M/L favorites and usually play >5/1. See below for past year. Mar. 6, 2010. We'll start the year at Gulfstream with Khancord Kid at 5/1 in the $150K race 7. Set for as top effort and showed a blistering move on firm turf on Jan. 14. Result; Started the year off with a winner as Khancord got the lead, drew off when asked and held off late closer. Paid $18.20. _________________________________________________________________________________________________ Oct. 17. No play; awful weather. Oct. 10. At Del with Luck Follows Speed at 4/1 (3rd choice) in the first. Has the speed to wire this weak field if she handles the wet track. Diamond Account in the 6th at 10/1 is under new management and should be up for this. Also playing Unforgettable Gal at 8/1 in the 6th. Likes it wet. Result. Luck ran 3rd. Caught late. Diamond also ran 3rd in good effort. Unforgettable ran out as track wasn't wet. Aug. 15. Going with 2 at Del. Big Smooth in race 1 has been outside the last couple and gets better post today. 8/1. Bushy's Yield in the 2nd fits class and distance here. 4/1 as 3rd choice. Result; Big Smooth was smooth but slow. Ran 5th. Bushy's Yield was a fast closing 3rd; lost by a length. July 26. Haply in the 2nd at Del will be closing strongly. In from Lrl at 6/1. Also, playing her with fav L'Affaire in exacta box. Result; Scratched July 25. Going with 2 value plays at Del today. Sneaky General at 8/1 in the 1st drops, is back on dirt and shows a decent work for this. Madame Vera at 5/1 in the 8th can close into a weak field here. Result; Sneaky had the lead and coughed it up, ran 5th. Madame was fast closing 3rd at 10/1. July 4. Weather has finally cleared and we're playing Mi D' Ruler at 8/1 in the 3rd at Del has flashed enough speed to contend here. Has solid connections. Result: Mi D' was scratched. June 6. Playing Desert Key in the 6th at Belmont. Working beautifully and fits with these super sprinters at this point. Should be good value at 6/1 with Benny The Bull probably being overbet. Result; Ran 3rd in good effort. May 30. At Del and going with Stormy C's in the 1st at 8/1 and Propt Delivery in the 2nd at 6/1. Stormy returns to fast dirt, and Propt needed last. Result; Stormy C's ran a solid race but couldn't cope with 1/2 favorite missing by less than 2 lengths. Propt Delivery started 5 lengths behind the field. The jockey panicked and rushed into contention to fade late as would be expected from such a maneuver. May 23. Playing Mr. Conover at 8/1 in the 4th at Del. Profits from speed duel. Result; Ran last all the way. Unusual for this trainer. May have been an injury situation. May 17. At Pim for Preakness day and going with Despite The Odds in the 8th at 9/2. Carefully handled by hot trainer and ready to step up in class. Result; Missed the break and couldn't catch up with the high speed of the race. Jockey had a bad day overall. May 2. Derby day at CD. Going with Secret Gypsy in the 9th as spot play. Solid return, working well and can control the pace. 3rd choice at 7/2. Result; Track was muddy and wiped out our pick. Apr. 25. At Del for opening day Stakes, the 6f Moscarelli (9th). Turned out to be a fine field with plenty of early speed. We'll go with the closer Lord Snowdon at 6/1. Looks fit, improving works, and ships in for this. Result; Scratched. Apr. 18. Staying at Kee for the Coolmore Lexington - the final key (albeit weak) 3yo race before the KY Derby. We're going with His Greatness at 20/1 despite losing to 9/5 favorite Square Eddie by 10 last fall at Kee. Our pick looks like he's coming to hand. He ran a good third to Musket Man in the Ill. Derby last following a bullet and too fast 46.3 work just 2 days before. He's had some time to recover and could be closing here with the track playing to closers in the past week. Result; Bad pick here. Ran a dismal race. Trainer apparently doesn't know his horse. Apr. 11. At Kee for the Blue Grass where we are set on Terrain at 6/1. Needed last, has run well here before, should be there at the end and gets hot jockey Leparoux. Also, playing My Pal Charlie in the 7th. Shortens up to what maybe his ideal distance. Got a sharp work in to get him ready for the distance. 4/1. Results; Terrain ran 4th after being too far back most of the race. My Pal Charlie ran 3rd. Apr. 4. At AQ for the Wood Memorial which unfortunately came up with a weak field. Yesterday was wet and strong wind gusts are forecast for today. But we'll brave them and pick the 4 Stakes races. We're going with the 12/1 Rocketing Returns in the 7th. His recent work says Zito has him ready for his lifetime best. We'll stick with the favorite Barrier Reef in the 8th at 5/2. He's on a roll, likes the distance and a wet track. In the Wood, how could we not play an exacta with I Want Revenge and West Side Bernie? We don't know whether Madoff is from the west side but it's close enough even if not. The 7f Carter (10th) is the best race of the day with a world of speed. Ah Day at 8/1 is a solid closer. The distance suits and the extra furlong should do in some of the speed. Result; Rocketing Return ran out. Moved up to be a threat at the quarterpole and then flattened out. Barrier Reef ran 3rd after being far back and blocked when it counted. The Revenge/Bernie Exacta came in and paid $15.20 to bail us out. Revenge looks like the real thing for the KY Derby after missing the start and being blocked at the top of the stretch. Ah Day made a mild rally to finish 5th. Race won by the other closer. Mar. 28. Florida Derby day at GP (10th) so we'll focus on that first. Dunkirk needs the race for entry into the KY Derby and looks set to win it albeit only 9/5. Is 2 for 2 with trouble in each. He may slide a little here but still should have more than enough to overcome these. His main competition, Quality Road, was 3 yo just 5 days ago while Dunkirk is 2 full months older. Extra age can make a difference, both physically and mentally, in the early distance 3yo races. We are also going with Custom For Carlos in the 7F Swale Stakes (9th) at 4/1. He should be one of 2 closers in this speed-filled race and is coming into his own. He was all out at this distance in his last but that followed a sharp work just 4 days before. He should be sharper late this time. And, Desourmeaux is riding well these days. Result: Dunkirk ran 2nd as heavy favorite. Custom For Carlos ran 3rd at 6/1. Both were compromised by GP souping up the track so only front-runners had a shot. Three track records were set and the only horses who won from off the pace were on the turf. Pletcher said after Dunkirk lost that he would have run at AQ next week if he knew they were going to do that. Another nail in the coffin for GP. Its future as a major track seems up in the air. Oh, and Desourmeaux won 4 during the day. Mar. 21. At Turfway with Hot Cha Cha at 10/1 in the Bourbonette Oaks (10th). She's the closer in a speed-filled race. Needs to overcome the outside post. Also attracted to Hold Me Back in the Lane's End (10th) at 6/1. Working briskly for return and Desormeaux on the rail is a plus. May be a good exacta box with West Side Bernie who figures to be tough.Result: A banner day as the track set up for closers and both came from well out of it to win. Hot Cha Cha drew off by 6 and paid $20.00. Hold Me Back got up late by 2 and paid $20.20 while earning enough to make it into the KY Derby. West Side Bernie coughed up the exacta with a dismal effort and finished 6. Still, a good day. Mar. 14, 2009. Back with out spot plays. Going with 2 at FG if conditions turn wet. Secret Getaway in race 7 at 10/1. Gets Desormeux, is training well and should handle the distance and wet track. Also playing Ikigal in the 10th at 7/2. Has a world of speed and is undefeated on off tracks. Result: Secret Getaway had the lead late but got caught late by an out of sight closer. Paid $10 to place. Ikigal missed the break and didn't get the lead. Aug. 23, 2008. At Sar with Mambo in Seattle in the Travers at 5/1 but should be higher. Has had competitive speed figures with Pyro on 3 straight days but in different races and is on the improve. Should get the distance. July 26. At Sar with Rising Moon in the Whitney (10th) at 10/1. Dutrow has had the time to get him in his top shape. Ready for this. July 19. At Del with third choice Aunt Mabel in the 8th at 9/2. Can close into swift pace set up. Result; Ran 2nd in good effort. July 12. Going with Light Sentence at 6/1 in the 5th at Del. Solid race here earlier. Result; Won in final strides despite very slow start and 5 wide. Paid $8.60. June 28. At Del with Whitepark Bay in the 8th at 12/1. Speed of race had rapid work 2 days ago which should kill of all the speed and set things up for Whitepark rally. Needs to avoid going too wide. Result; scratched. June 21. Playing Chinchilla in the 6th at Del at 8/1. Should pick up the pieces when front runners fade. Result; Ran 3rd. Not enough late. June 14. Going with Awesome Chic in the 7th at 8/1. Has met better. Sharpened in work. Result; Ran 4th. June 7. At Del with 15/1 shot Stormy C's in the 5th. Erratic sort but Napravnik stays here rather than choice. Result; Ran a bad race. Nepravnik should have stayed home. May 17. At Pim with M J's Enchanteur in the 7th at 6/1. Plenty of speed and the track should favor it by race time. Inside post helps. Result; Scratched. May 3. Going with Miraculous Miss the the 8th at CD. Has been competitive with better; distance suits. 6/1. Result; Ran 4th in impressive effort. Was far back on speed-favoring track, closed strongly splitting horses with good ride but couldn't sustain rally late. Needed race. Watch for next time. Apr. 26. At Del with Ontheredeyetodubai in the 1st at 6/1. Ships in for bow after rapid works at CT. Result; Ran 3rd, tired late. Apr. 19. Staying at Kee for the 3 yo Lexington Stakes (9th) with Samba Rooster at 8/1. Impressive work after switch to Baffert. Can wire the field at 1 1/16. Result; Ran 2nd by 1 L. Caught late. Paid $17.00 to place. Apr. 12. At Kee for the Blue Grass (9th). Favorites in the 3yo Stakes have been vulnerable and we're going with 15/1 shot Cowboy Cal who's making the transition from turf to AW. Bred for the distance and has the speed. Result; Ran 2nd by neck. Paid $8.80 to place. Heavy favorite ran 10th. . March 29 At GP for the FL Derby. Big Brown is the favorite but its hard to get too excited about a horse who has had only 2 starts; one on the turf and the other on dirt taken off the turf. Even though he won both easily, the last one had only 5 horses. This race looks like it will be a mad dash for the lead with many closeup throughout. We're looking for one to come from off the pace and taking Majestic Warrior at 15/1 to upset this field. He won the Hopeful at Sar with a big move down the stretch and is just getting back to form for top connections. Result; Big Brown ran a sweet race and danced off with it. Majestic's ran 5th with a rally that was too late and too weak. March 22. Staying at Tam with long shot Gem Of A Mom's Son (15/1) in the 5th. Solid work for new trainer and switch back from turf. Result; Ran last in dismal effort. Didn't like the rain. March 15, 2008. We'll start our picks this year with an 8/1 shot in the Florida Oaks at Tam; Awesome Chic. Looks competitive and should get the distance. Result; Won by 4. Paid $28.60 Dec. 22. At Beu with Precise Night in the 2nd at 6/1. Post advantage over other early speed contenders. Result; Ran 3rd. Dec. 8. At Beu with She's Her Image in the 6th at 5/1. Benefits from speed duel. Also playing Hakka Woman in the 8th at 9/2. Better post than last. Result; Races cancelled. Dec.1 At Phl with Prize Note in the 3rd. Weakened in last following a brisk work only 2 days before. Can wire here. 9/2. Result; Led but weakened to 4th. Nov. 24. Going with two at Phl today. B. A. Marine in the 3rd at 6/1. Fits well with this class and distance. Double Down Vinman has the speed and post to wire this field. 4/1. Result; Both ran 3rd. B. A. Marine was best but got an awful ride; watch for next. Vinman had the lead but tired. Nov. 17. Playing Victor's Prospect in the 1st and Ghost Orie (6/1) in the 7th at Phl. The former runs against a beatable heavy favorite and the latter has new connections with sufficient time since last for an upgrade. Results; Victor's Prospect ran 2nd in close finish. Ghost Orie won by 10. Paid $6.60. Nov. 11. At Phl with Coastal Belle (9/2) in the 1st. Wires the field from inside post. Result; Ran out in a dismal effort. Nov. 3. Playing Dance Prince in the 10th at Phl. Looks to have a little more punch down the lane needed with the high winds. 10/1. Oct. 27. At Mon with Intentional Fever in the 2nd at 12/1. Handles the mud, and the post and distance suit here. Result; Ran 2nd at 16/1. Paid $14.40 for place. Oct. 21. Going with Two Dragons in the 3rd at Del. Has more punch late than others. 4/1 as 3rd choice. Result; Ran 2nd in good effort. Oct. 20. At Del with Monicklissa in the 1st. Solid in last under new connections. Up in class @ 8/1. Result; Ran 4th in tight finish. Sept. 29. Playing Woody's Apache in the 1st at Del. Back to route after sharpening in sprints. 6/1. Result; Won by 4. Paid $8.00 Sept.8. At Del with Sheets, 7/2 - 3rd choice, in the 8th and Bondage, 15/1, in the 9th. Sheets ran well against monster at Sar and fits here. Bondage is consistent and should like the grass. Results; Sheets ran 5th in close finish. Bondage was scratched. July 28. At Del with Rose Mary's Moon in the 3rd. Big drop off bad race; good spot for bluff at 8/1. Result; Ran 3rd. Led; caught late. July 21. Going with Robin Des Concorde in the 6th at Del. Plenty of late punch at the distance with excellent gate jockey. Good value at 6/1. Result; Got good position, won with late move. Paid $16.40 July 14. At Del with Better Than Bonds in the 7th. Profits from speed duel. 6/1. Also, Winning Point in the featured 8th ($500K). Inside post and jockey switch is worth a shot at 10/1. Results; Both ran 2nd in tough losses. BTB lost by a length, gaining but just couldn't quite catch the winner. WP was blocked, cleared late and lost in tight photo. July 7. Going with Valid Notebook in the 7th at Del at 6/1. Profits from speed duel. Also playing Hesa Big Star in the 8th if Napravnik sticks instead of other mount in race. 6/1. Result; Valid Notebook was scratched. Hesa Big Star won by 4. Paid $7.40. Was a play because Napravnick was not in action at Del and was replaced by a top jockey. June 16. At Del with Dance Away Capote (6/1) in the 6th. Resuming past form after long break. Result; Wasn't ready, ran out. June 9. At CT with Smokin in the 4th at 5/1. Has the speed for this short race and is improved under new connections. Result; Ran out. Trouble in gate. Didn't break. June 2. Going with Bound for Repect in the 7th at Del. Speed and distance suit well here. 3rd choice at 7/2. Result; Ran 2nd. Caught in last stride. May 26. Playing Salinja in the 7th at Del. Two sharp works sets him up for this. 6/1. Result; Ran 3rd. Outkicked late. May 19. At Pim with Semaphore Man in the 8th at 6/1.Ships in after super works show he's ready for his best effort. Solid at the distance and likes it wet. Result; Ran 3rd in solid effort. |
