THE PREAKNESS STAKES 2010

Preakness Analysis & Selections

2010 Preakness. Here's what happened in the 2010 KY Derby.

Super Saver broke alertly and drove right to the rail. This caused the 2 horse to wipe out Lookin At Lucky on the rail who was banged around later also and went wide when finally untracked. He was 22 lengths behind at one point and closed to lose by 7 making up 15 lengths. This despite the wide trip and Super Saver saving all the ground with a trouble-free trip. Super Saver is now in the 8th post with Lookin At Lucky in 7. Borel, who won last year's Preakness wire to wire, can be expected to try the same two things this time and get to the lead and the rail early in a race not filled with speed. He could compromise Lucky again but the Baffert crew will no doubt be expecting this and hopefully avoid getting drilled again. The key to the race seems to be Yawanna Twist who is inside and can keep Super Saver to an honest pace. Dublin who ran 7th in the Derby moved much too soon in that but he also made up 10 lengths on the winner. With the jockey switch to Garret Gomez, who will no doubt be putting in his best effort having been taken off Lucky, Dublin should be a force here. Paddy O'Prado was another victim of the NASCAR-type 2010 Derby and would have been second had Deormeaux ridden him out to the wire. He has a shot here. Of the newcomers, First Dude and Schoolyard Dreams come in freshened and training very smartly. The latter beat Super Saver in the TB Derby. Both Dublin and First Dude should avoid crowding with their outside posts. Super Saver seems about on a par with many of these at least without an off track and at 5/2 we'll leave him out of our Super High 5 altogether. Might as well go for the bundle.

Our picks - 1) Lookin At Lucky 2) Dublin 3) First Dude 4) Paddy O'Prado 5) Schoolyard Dreams.

Result; 1) Lookin At lucky 2) First Dude 3) Jackson Bend 4) Yawanna Twist 5) Dublin.
We pretty much had this race on the money. Lookin at Lucky won with First Dude right there. Dublin was 5th with Paddy O'Prado 6th. As expected, Super Saver ran out but managed to reverse the loss we noted to Schoolyard Dreams by 1/2 L this time. The Lucky-First Dude exacta paid $188.60. Dublin took himself out of the race by bolting outside at the break and almost hitting the outrider.
